Call for Papers:

Edited book of studies of laughter in talk-in-interaction

Editors:

Authors are invited to submit abstracts for an edited book of conversation analytic studies concerning laughter in casual conversation or in institutional interactions.  Building on the publication of Glenn's 2003 book Laughter in Interaction, recent conferences on laughter in Asahikawa, Japan (2008), Huddersfield, UK (2009) and Boston, MA, USA (2011), and the recent publication of studies of laughter in honor of the late Gail Jefferson in Journal of Pragmatics (42:6 June2010), this book will feature an overview chapter plus a collection of original studies.  The volume should find an audience among conversation analysts as well as scholars of laughter and humor in fields such as pragmatics, humor studies, linguistics, communication, and sociology.

Deadline for abstracts: September 1, 2010.  Our goal is to send the full proposal (with abstracts) to an academic publisher by the end of September.  Papers will need to be completed by June 2011.

Please send abstract proposals to both editors:
